Default Backup Disk To Disk - Problem with Drive Image OT

My drive image 2002 backup system has gone South. In Caldera DOS, one of
the two drives shows Zero for size, and when I attempt to backup a partition
to that drive, the drive shows BAD, and no backup is possible.

The drives are good, I can boot to either one of them, and I've used this
method for about 5 years now. All of a sudden the program has a problem.
No matter which drive I try to copy from, or to, one of the drives
always shows Zero and Bad. I downloaded and tried Acronis, but it doesn't
seem to offer the DOS option for copying entire partitions. Likewise, I
tried Terabyte's drive image, but it doesn't create a true image that I can
boot to.

It might help if someone could tell me where the floppy drive is writing to
in Caldera DOS, because I think that's where the corrupted file is that's
causing the problem. Also, is there another true image program that permits
copying partitions in DOS? I want to image the drive, as a backup, so that
I can just plug it in and boot to it if required. TIA

You're not looking for an imaging program if you want to boot from it. You
are looking to CLONE a disk drive, which is entirely different. An image is
not a clone.
DOS is not necessary for modern imaging OR cloning operations in windows
applications.

I think I'd try a reinstall of your program to start with.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I want to clone one drive to another, and
my Drive Image 2002
seems to be the problem. I can boot to either drive and they work just
fine. But in Caldera DOS
one of the drives shows zero for size, and under Type, it says BAD.

DI2002 only uses Caldera Dos when booting from an image it writes to the
boot sector of the partition. It only does this when you wish to image the
partition it originates from. Otherwise, regarding dos, its uses msdos on a
floppy diskette. Clarify. Seasoned DI2002/DI 7.0 user.

Ok, perhaps DI has corrupted the boot sector. I ran fixboot
and fixmbr on both drives, and that didn't correct the problem. I've
created
new floppies from the orig DI 2002 CD, that didn't change anything.

How can I clear the problem if it is a corrupted DI2002 entry in the boot
sector?
I'm afraid to purchase DI 7.0 because that may not work around my problem.
TIA

DI2002 running in XP environment cannot create the boot floppies as far as I
know. It needs to source msdos from the OS, which XP does not have. The
installation CD for 2002 has no aspect for creating the boot diskette and
the subsequent DI2002 program diskette.

Unless you have a specialized hardware platform that today's imagng programs
can't perform on, I wouldn't look for DI 7.0.

The boot modification is a simple pointer. If XP boots/works, the pointer
is gone. That's normal.
