Default CD doesnt eject

WinXp sp3,
An occasional problem, no cd in the drive, eject btn doesnt open the drive,
light flashes for several seconds.
If the sys is rebooted, its fine. Sys is run 24/7
If I open my Power DVD app, I can eject with this.

Just an irritation, any thoughts?

Perhaps your CD eject button has become intermittent. I suggest you download
EjectDrive.exe from here:
http://www.pa-software.com/scripts/?tp=vbs&sc=hotkey, then create a couple
of desktop shortcuts like so:

EjectDrive.exe F and
EjectDrive.exe /L F

You don't need any of the VB stuff shown in this link.

Defective CD/DVD drive.

Test this. Power off the computer, power on the computer but go into the
System Setup (BIOS) - so no operating system is loaded.

Does the button (eject) on yourCD/DVD drive work consistently?

If no - I suggest replacing the defective drive.
