Default XP SP3 installation - Access denied?!!

Hello,

Whilst trying to install XP SP3 on an XP Home PC I got the error -
"Access denied".

I am thinking of resetting the registry and file permissions as
suggested by Microsoft at

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

Does anyone have experience of this?

What happens if all goes wrong? Say, the PC will not boot into XP?

I will have created a restore point but how do I restore to this if
the PC will not boot into XP?

Thanks

Geoff

Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or
"Service Pack installation did not complete"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

[Possible fix:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...n-windows-xp/]

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09.
