Recently I installed Win XP Pro over W2K on my laptop. I then deleted the
W2K files using method specified by MS Support. After the reboot, the hardware wizard pops up asking to install drivers for a device called Net Trans. I tried doing the automated search thru Windows Update and manually searching for this device on the files present on my laptop, but couldn't find them (I did unhide all of my hidden files to search them too). I then searched thru my Win XP and W2K CDs-still no joy. I looked up Net Trans on the web and found one brief description by MSDN that says it has something to do with network protocol, but the device has no dependent services and is not configurable. I then used the SFC command to verify protected Window files, then rebooted-still got the wzard popup. When I check the Device Manager, there is no device listed with the yellow bang or question mark...and yet everytime I boot up my laptop the hardware wizard chirps in with the demand that I install this Net Trans device. I just recently completed a full antispyware and boot antivirus scan (no spyware or viruses)...when I reboot, the wizard still pops up. OK...does anyone has any advice on how to look for this Net Trans device or just stop that annoying hardware wizard popup at every boot? Other than that my laptop is working OK, no other problems noted. |

Today I resolved the NetTrans device problem...I went back to my laptop
manufacturer's site and searched their support for options...turns out there is an issue with some Fujitsu notebooks that after upgrading to Win XP OS a device driver will go missing and will show up as an unknown device in Device Manager. After follow their instructions to install the device (related to a hotkey utility only found at Fujitsu support), I no longer get the hardware wizard popup. For those of you who have a Fujitsu notebook and run into a similar problem, make sure you check out their support site first. |
