Default Task Manager Little Green Box

When I do CTRL-ALT-DEL my Task Manager does not appear. Instead I
receive a small green box in the task bar. When I click on it a menu
comes up that give me two choices: "Close" or "Always on Top". The
usual Task Manager does not appear. I am running Windows XP
Professional on a Dell XPS (4 years old). I have all the upgrades to
Windows XP. Can anyone tell me how to get my Task Manager back?

That is what you get when you right click it, what happens when you left
click the little green box?

Double-click the little green box. Task Manager is minimized in
that little green box . This will expand it so you can use the
Task Manager. Somewhat like rubbing Aladdin's lamp.

Unfortunately, that is not the problem. The Task Manager does not
appear, no matter how many times I click on it. It remains as a little
green box on the task bar.

Perhaps it is opening off-screen.
Try deleting the Preferences value under the following registry key:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\TaskManager

R-click in the taskbar area and select Cascade Windows

Okay...Do the words "Windows Task Manager" appear on the bottom
Task Bar? If so right-click once and select either 'restore' or
'maximize'.

Do the control/alt/delete and task manager should appear.

And when you get the Task Manager working go to Options and
uncheck 'Hide when minimized'. this could be your problem. You
can check the other two options.
