Even though I have been able to move the location of the 'My Documents' from
C-drive to G-drive, it won't let me move the 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Recent' folder. Everytime I edit the registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders' key to change the default location of 'Recent', it changes back to the default location after I reboot. Any recently opened documents still appear in the default folder rather than the new location: I just want to move it to another root drive, V: (another partion). TweakUI doesn't list the 'Recent' folder among its 'Special Folders'. I've checked my firewall options in case it's blocking any registry changes but it doesn't seem to be; I also thought it might be Spybot Search and Destroy blocking registry changes, but again it doesn't look like it. I'm the only user on this PC and I have an admin account. Tim |

I presume that it 'follows the user'. If you are the user why
would it record recent usage somewhere else than in your file? Think about it. - "Tim.T" <blah@blah.com> wrote in message news:uTUpFMqOJHA.4700@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Even though I have been able to move the location of the 'My > Documents' from > C-drive to G-drive, it won't let me move the 'C:\Documents and > Settings\User\Recent' folder. The date and time was 10/30/2008 8:20 AM, and on a whim, Tim.T pounded
out on the keyboard: > Even though I have been able to move the location of the 'My Documents' from > C-drive to G-drive, it won't let me move the 'C:\Documents and > Settings\User\Recent' folder. It only contains shortcuts to recently used files, not the files themselves. So it is taking up minimal space. Mine currently has 186 objects and is using up 112k. Not worth worrying about. I have a shortcut to it on my Desktop since I prefer to see all my recent files showing rather than what Windows figures I need to see. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Recent (My Recent Documents) cannot be moved in Windows Explorer, but must
be moved in the registry. It is best to leave the Local Settings shell folders alone or change the location in the registry at User Shell Folders. The Temporary Internet Files can be moved in the Internet Options control panel. I followed those instructions at Kellys Korner, but in hindsight I find them
confusing. What's the point in having the option to change registry location but the location in Explorer has to stay the same? It's the latter I want to change. Looks like it aint possible. Hey ho. I don't suppose there's an option to tell Windows to stop remembering my 'Recent' documents completely? I know how to turn the list off on the Start Menu, I just thought there was a tweak to get Windows to 'forget' any document I open.
