Default Wireless problem after installing SP3

Hi
After installing SP3 onto an Acer Aspire 1360 (XP Home SP2) it will no
longer connect to my wireless network. It simply sits there trying to
acquire an IP address but doesn't succeed. It also says the signal
strength is low where it is usually excellent and is trying to connect at
1Mbps. Trying to find networks in range results in the claim there are no
networks in range. Uninstalling SP3 restores normality. The wireless
router is a Belkin with hardware version F5D7231-4 2000. Any ideas?

Problem is not with the router but the wireless adapter inside the
Acer. Check for updated drivers from Acer or try uninstalling
wireless adapter and rebooting XP. This should reset the drivers for
the wireless adapter.

You may want to contact Belkin for help.

Some third-party programs may experience a change in functionality after you
install Windows XP Service Pack 3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947309

The above article has contact info for various vendors but none for Belkin...go
figure.

I Googled and found a firmware update that's available for your router, but you
should check with their tech support first to see if this will cure your
problem. Here's the link for the update:

http://www.belkin.com/support/produc...&pid=F5D7231-4

Good luck!

Hi Paul,

I'm losing connectivity -- I use a wireless Netgear adapter -- to the
Internet after installing SP3, although it hasn't been immediately apparent.

Earlier this week, I first thought it was due to AVG 7.5 / AVG 8.0 issues.

However, overnight I lost connectivity again for no apparent reason, and
after spending an hour this morning uninstalling/reinstalling AVG and the
Netgear software -- and still being unable to get Internet connectivity as
it looks...
and looks...and looks to acquire an IP address -- I finally just uninstalled
SP3.

I'll continue using SP2 for a while.

Alan

Hi
Thanks to all who offered some help on this - My main problem is I can't
update the network card drivers as the company that made it is no more and
I already have their last drivers. I'm getting a replacement card and
hopefully SP3 will work with that
