Hi,
I have a Belkin Wireless G PCI card and XP Pro. The PC works fine if the internet router is on and I'm wirelessly connected. However if the internet router is off and I turn the PC on, then the PC will completely freeze for a second every 7-10 seconds. It's like he PC is polling to see if it can wirelessly find the router every 7-10 seconds. If I turn the router on and connect to the internet then great! the freeze goes, even if I then turn the router off it's all fine sill, but not if I restart when the router is off. I don't want to have the internet on all the time, can I fix this? I am using the latest drivers and windows updates. When the Internet is off and it starts to freeze again I disbaled the card and the freeze went away. Thanks |

Check for spyware.
My sister had a similar situation. Open task manager and see if there is a process using a lot of resources, (not system idle process). I can't recall the program now, but in my sisters case it was something she had installed through a website and could be uninstalled through add/remove programs. But when I tried to kill it off it initially, it would restart itself. It sounds like the program could be trying to connect to a server and the pause it the timeout period. I tried task manager but it actually freezes the PC for a second and doesn't
update task manager. I even killed all the proccesses possible and it still froze every 7-10 seconds. The only things remaining were svhosts.exe. I even tried Process Explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx But no luck, only that defferred procudure calls hit 80% for a second.
