Default CD-Writer DVD-ROM drivers are not working

I have an HP Media Center PC m7248n w/XP and about a month ago I
discovered I could no longer burn CDs or DVDs. I have tried several
things including removing software that I had recently downloaded.
Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any suggestions on how to get the
drivers driving again?

Can you read CDs or DVDs?
A likely cause is a hardware problem which keeps the drive from writting.

A way to solve the driver issue, if in fact there is one, is to delete the
driver and reboot. During reboot, XP will copy the driver from the \i386
folder.
Another software cause may be the infamous upper and lower filters problem.
Consult Help & Support to get help for solving this issue.

Are you sure that it is the drivers? Unfortunately all CD/DVD drives wear
out and stop burning discs eventually. It can happen is as little as a
couple of years.
