I used the WindowsXP backup utility.

In this case you must use the same tool to restore your
files, perhaps to a differen location. You should also pay attention to the basic rule of backups: A backup is almost useless unless a) It gets tested immediately after the initial configuration, and b) It gets tested regularly, e.g. twice each year.
