Default password protect a folder

I have a small workgroup setup that is made up of 3 Windows XP PC's. All
three computers share folders and printers amongst each other. Each of the
three PC's has one user assigned to it exclusively. On my PC, there is a
folder that contains many private documents. The contents of this folder are
to be viewed only by myself and the user sitting at one of the other two
computers. Is there a way that I can share this folder with the other user,
but prevent the third user/computer from being able to access it? I would
think there is someway a password could be put on the folder, but am not sure
on how to accomplish this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are permissions not good enough to restrict access by the third user?

If you encrypt or password protect the folder make sure that you have a
backup of the unencrypted/unprotected folder and a backup of the
encryption key! Trust me, sooner or later you will lose access to the
folder!

Windows XP has Zipfolders which supports passwords.

Open "My computer" then tools and in tools open "Folder options" Click on
view tab
Drag mouse to bottom remove check from option "USE SIMPLE FILE SHARING
(RECOMMENDED)" Then open properties of folder or file you wish to make
private. Then click on "security" tab, you can see group or user names.
Remove users that you dont wish access the item. You can also remove users
from accessing to whole partition. But only term is there that your partition
should be NTFS. Only NTFS gives you security not FAT partition.

Good lord man, that's like killing a fly by swatting it with the MOON.

Encryption on a computer that is not storing national security secret
stuff is just plain dumb. It usually leads to data loss as the person
who encrypts it usually fails to take precautions to back up what is
necessary so in case of system failure, they can restore their
encryption certificates. Encryption outside government or big
business sytems is just stupid. There are easier ways to keep the
kiddies from looking at your computer porn.

Like WinNT and Win2K before it, WinXP's file security paradigm
doesn't rely on, or allow, the cumbersome method of password protection
for individual applications, files, or folders. Instead, it uses the
superior method of explicitly assigning file/folder permissions to
individual users and/or groups.

Of course, if you have WinXP Pro, you can encrypt the desired
files/folders.

As a crude work-around, you can place the file in a compressed
folder, and set a password to uncompress the folder to view/access its
contents. Also, some applications allow the user to password-protect
their specific data files. Read the specific application's Help files
for further information on this capability.
