Vista is making me lose my sanity...

If this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it.

Anyways, I've been noticing that my computer has been installing
updates without my consent. Originally, I had set it to install updates
automatically, and it did that for awhile. But here recently, it's been
installing updates almost every time I come on the internet. I tried
changing the update settings to "Download updates, but let me choose
whether to install them" and the two other options (check updates and
allow me to install, and never download updates) and it still didn't
work. Now, every time I get on the computer, I have to wait almost an
hour for the updates to configure, even when I didn't give them the go
ahead to install!

Is anyone having this problem? And if so, is there some sort of patch
that can cure it? Here's what my computer says I need to download:

Re: Vista is making me lose my sanity...

I have found that it is advantageous to have the updates automatically
download and Install, at 3:00 a.m. It works! To me the words "Security" and
"Important" indicates that you may be open to some malicious software.
Don't depend on your Anti-virus program to protect from this.

Your consent? It seems that you can't tell which ones are valid, so why not
just install them?

I normally switch off the automatic update facility, error reporting
facility(believe me, it has never found any solution for any of my problems),
I hope someone here may help you without blaming you for all the difficulties.

I had a similar problem, my solution was to type each of your downloads you
mention in your list into google, for instance-"(KB938464) download"
Then download every one of them manually and save to the desktop. Next
double click each one in turn to install, when finished, reboot and all
should be fine. It was for me anyway

Re: Vista is making me lose my sanity...

I forgot to mention that almost every single time after it has finished
"configuring" the updates, System Recovery boots and it says my computer
cannot start, most likely because of the updates being installed.

I have tried installing the updates manually, and this still happens.

In addition, Firefox, my main browser, always claims that it
encountered an error when I go to open the browser and if I want to
resume my previous session or start a new one, when there was no issues
when I was signing off.

I've run spyware checks, virus checks to no avail. I'm contemplating
reformatting the entire computer.

I never use it for Windows Update. Ever hear of Auto Update?

Re: Vista is making me lose my sanity...

so you have your computer all night on without it doing anything
contributing to global warming?

If the answer is yes (and you have no important reason for having it on)...
well you are sick!
