Are these competing formats? What are some of the As & Ds? Is XPS like a free version of PDF? Or do you need to pay to make those too? |

XPS is the microsoft open source version of documents that they want people
to start using, but it will never happen. You can create BOTH XPS and PDF for free.... PDF is the format everyone has used for years and will remain so, whatever Microsoft does. Linux, Macs and Windows can all ready pdf with the proper software. Microsoft is just being stupid once more. It's the same thing with Flash and silverlight. Silverlight is bound to die.. I don't understand why they even tried to compete with flash! lol its just that Microsoft lacks every idea of innovation, they just see what others are doing and launch their own version and try to grab a market share... they have failed again and again.. perhaps they would have better luck with the X-Box and Zunes.. let them stick to tangible products and let the programs to be made by people who still have ideas. If I had to guess, I would presume part of their strategy is to tie XPS and Silverlight with the .NET framework. This way it would make it easier for developers to generate automatic documents that are most compliant to Windows as well as certain “dynamic presentations” via Silverlight on company intranet sites as well as external websites. Of course this in turn will be enhanced with supporting code specific for these technologies within IE itself as an added boost. By the time this happens, to further finish the blow, Expression Studio will be ready to completely replace Adobe’s entire product line. In the meantime some features will be incorporated in Vista and Windows 7 for free, like the future photo one in Ultimate extras. Fast forward 10 more years and Microsoft Mom (a revamp of MS Bob) will be there to raise the next generation with robots, because motherly roles will be also assimilated by the Microsoft Corporation and Mom’s will also be out of work and obsolete! ![]() -- rasmasyean |

I found this link: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3672_7-....html?tag=lnav This looks pretty good actually. It looks like it has a lot of uses in firms where a lot of secrets and “privileged information” floats around. Especially like law firms and government and such. -- rasmasyean |
