type 'defrag' (without the quotes) into the search box in the start menu.
When the disk defragmenter appears at the top of the programs box click on it to open defragmenter. in the disk defragmenter window click the 'select volumes' button. Now just de-select any drive you don't want defragmenting. Finally click OK and defrag will defragment only the drive(s) you've selected. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". I read that Service Pack 1 (SP1) will include a method for selection.

I typed, in the search box, in Start menu, the word 'defrag' and hit Enter -
The 'Disk Defragmenter' menu showed up with the following list - a) Run on a schedule (recommended) .....with the ..... 'Modify schedule' b) 'Scheduled defragmentation is enabled'.... with the ....'Defragment now' None of them shows how to choose a drive, either C: or D: What am I missing? When I typed
defrag d: -w -v it is doing something, but does not tell me what drive it is defragging Question - what is -w -v means? How do I know that I am defragging the D: drive? I really prefer Auslogics Disk Defragger to the internal Vista defragger. It's fast, free and gives you the ability to select which drives you want to defrag. You can find it here if you're interested: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software...efrag/download Good luck. -Riff |
