Critical Updates

I am very used to my WinXPsp2 Critical Updates page, however, finding the
Vista Home Premium SP1 a bit confusing.
I went to the Windows Update and saw an Update for Defender, which I
downloaded.
However, I noticed two other updates:
#1- Mail Junk E-mail Filter (April 2008) (KB905866) - Recommended
(Which I think I should download.)

#2- Realtek Network Realtek - Optional
(I don't know what this one is. I don't believe I need it. If there is a
Realtek program on this notebook, I don't believe I would ever use it. Do I
have to download this one?)
I saw these two downloads yesterday and again today, so it would appear that
they will keep appearing until I do something with both of them. If I do not
have to download #1 Realtek, will it keep appearing?
Thank you.

This is a driver for your audio or network card, I can not tell which
without knowing the model number. So I guess you use it on a daily basis.
;-)

Anyway, Windows Update is not the best place to get third party drivers. You
will find the most recent ones at the manufacturer's web sites.

Realtek download:

Download the newest Realtek drivers from Realtek. If this listing keeps
appearing in Windows Update after that, right-click it and chose Hide.

Re: Critical Updates

#1- I did a Search for Realtek and nothing showed up. If I did not want to
download it, how can I stop it from showing everytime I run Windows Update?
I did look in Device Manager and saw: "Sound, video and game controllers" =
Realtek High Definition Audio.
How do I know if I should download it?

#2- Should I download the one mentioned that stated "Recommended." The one
marked KB905866? The one for Junk E-Mail Filder. I don't know what this one
is and I do not know what it is referring to. I do not use e-mail on this new

Go to the Start Menu > Windows Update > Search for updates. Right-click the
update in question and select "Hide" from the context menu. You may need
administrator privileges in order to do so.

This is your computer's sound card, it is made by Realtek and must have
drivers installed in order to work. If the sound works ok for you, it really
is not imperative to download new drivers. "If it's not broken, don't mend
it."

Should you decide to install recent drivers anyway, do not use Windows
Update, but download directly from the manufacturer:

High Definition Audio drivers:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/p...Level=4&Conn=3

Network card drivers:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/p...Level=3&Conn=2

This is a definition update for Windows Mail's spam filter. If you do not
use Windows Mail, you do not need this update.
