Default Why is Office 2003 SP3 offered for Office 2007?

Hi,

I have auto-update set to notify me when updates are available for my system
but not to download/install them automatically. Today I was told of an
"important" update to install: SP3 for Office 2003. The only problem is that
I have Office 2007 (Small Business) installed on my computer, not 2003. Does
anyone know what is going on and/or have experienced the same thing?

I checked the information Microsoft released for SP3 and Office 2007 is not
part of the products for which the patch applies. Is this a bug in windows
update?

Cheers.

Do you have ANY components of Office 2993?
Also include any of the free viewers?
If you have any of the components, you may need the update.

I've found that on a few machines that I maintain which have Office XP
installed, when I go to Office Update there are some Office 2007 updates
that are offered, presumably because of earlier Office XP/Office 2007
converter packs that I had downloaded for these PCs.

I have not installed any components of Office 2003 (unless they are present
in Office 2007 and installed by default). There is no need for free viewers
since Office 2007 can load and save documents in the older formats.

I don't think we'll have any components of Office 2993 for a few years yet!

I have the same problem: Windows update is offering Office 2003 SP3 while I
have Office 2007 installed. This is a brand new PC with Vista Ultimate (FR)
and Office 2007 installed. I have /not/ installed any Office 2003 component
(I don't even have any CD to install it).

What should I do ? Refuse the update or accept it ? If I accept it, will it
request any product key I don't have ?

I've gotten the same thing on my computer. I have a brand new PC that I just
bought this past July. It is running Vista Home Premium with Office 2007
installed on it. I don't have anything from Office 2003 downloaded or
installed so I don't know why the update is showing me SP3. I'm not going to
install it until I get a definitive answer as to why it is showing up.

Hi PA Bear,

as I already mentioned, I have not installed anything from Office 2003
unless it is included/hidden in Office 2007 and installed by default. If
that was the case, then Office 2007 should have been listed as one of the
products for which SP3 applies... So we are back to square one except that
we now know that several other people seem to be experiencing the same thing.

Hopefully someone at Microsoft is reading this thread and can enlighten us
as to what is happening or at least tell us that they are looking into the
matter.

Default RE: Why is Office 2003 SP3 offered for Office 2007?

I am experiencing the same thing. I have installed Office 2007. The funny
thing is that, in response to "Is Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
installed?", the answer is "Yes". I checked the list from the Control Panel's
"Add or Remove Programs" and there it is. I did not install it myself. At
least I don't remember ever doing that since I had Microsoft Office 2000
before and I simply updated to Microsoft Office 2007.

Do I need 2003 Web Components? Shall I uninstall it?
