It looks like Avast is still supporting WinME. What other virus scanners are continuing to update for WinME? |

AVG Free v 7.5 is updating itself on both of my WinMe boxes, as I type - as
it has been doing regularly, whenever I remember to boot them! Like Mart I have AVG installed on my WinME machine and that's still getting
updates, in fact that will probably update itself again tomorrow when I turn it on for it's weekly maintenance <g> -- Joan Archer http://www.freewebs.com/crossstitcher http://lachsoft.com/photogallery "Greegor" <Greegor47@gmail.com> wrote in message news:ce7f5f5f-f437-481f-8157-737456e7f044@a29g2000pra.googlegroups.com... > It looks like Avast is still supporting WinME. > What other virus scanners are continuing to update for WinME? |

I will miss it also. Friends occasionally bring me their old computers to check over for them and I commonly start by updating AVG on my old WinME machine, putting their hard disk on my machine and virus scanning it with AVG 7.5. It occurs to me that using one of my newer machines with WinXP and AVG 8 might not scan the older WinME boot drives in a satisfactory way. On an XP machine installation of AVG (or any virus scanner) WHY would virii that only infect 98/SE/ME be defined or recognized on the WinXP machine? In addition, while there will undoubtedly be a few NEW virii that attack WinME/98/SE, WHY would they be added to an antivirus database for a WinXP (and above) system? |
