Hi Everyone,
I MAY also have a newsgroup problem using OE-- I sent a post to
microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.web and it never did post??

I'm a old timer, not new to this group--
My question IS regarding WM-Player and I see some othes have posted here
regarding the player.

Hi everyone,
Maybe a MVP can answer or anyone can chime in w/knowledge. I'm experience
strange behavior of WMP on a website I've been going to for years. I am
giving a page location on this sight.

The files are streaming audia-- MPEG Audio Layer-3
The pages have the WMP control on them.

I know this isn't a problem w/my player, I suspect it's security related. I
have added SP-3 to my W-XP OS recently since visiting the page. This
occurs only on this website which is quite large. Actually I have NEVER seen
anything quite like this before, the player works absolutely first rate
playing audio & video on other websites.

* open website, music starts & plays 80% of song-- STOPS, dialog box opens--
Error-- Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error
occurred.

* If I paste the sound location into IE address bar-- WMPlayer opens for me
and again plays 80% of the 4:04 min. sound file.

** I receive same dialog box--. Windows Media Player cannot play the file
because a network error occurred.

I Click on more info button--
0xC00D11C0: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network problem
occurred.

1. Your computer is not connected to the local area network (LAN) or
Internet. Connect to the network or Internet, and then try again.

2. The path to the file is not valid. If you typed a Uniform Resource
Locator (URL) address in the Open URL dialog box, ensure that the file name
is spelled correctly and the path to the file is correct, and then try
again. If you clicked a link on a Web page, the link may not be valid.

3. The server is down or busy. Try connecting to the server again later.
Some network protocols in the Player are not enabled. Enable all network
protocols, and then try again.

4. The proxy server settings for the Player are not configured properly.
Verify that your proxy settings are correct, and then try again.

I'm positive Microsoft IS missing MY REASON/OCCURENCE ??

You will not get expert WinXP advice in a NG specializing
in the Win98 OS. Any adviser will probably need to know
your WMP version, OE version, Java settings etc.

I have XP SP3 installed and your song runs the full length. This is an XP
problem. You need XP SP3 assistance, specifically. And you can get it for
free from Microsoft at the following contacts:

My understanding is that they work their butts off and really are
interested. I can't say, since I've only run into one issue with SP3 and
there is apparently no remedy. Actually, it's more like intentional.

The most appropriate newsgroup in which to post your query is:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...dowsxp.general

Don't expect a quick answer from the NG, or any at all except more or less
what I gave you above. But *maybe* somebody happens to have noted this
specific issue, also, and you can compare notes.

As for your missing post (it's not on Google, yet), if you posted it
directly to the MS News Server then you should know that nobody is really in
charge over there and that there are the strangest filters that have been
put in place, ad hoc, all over their news servers, such that the most
innocuous words trip a delete. Only remedy is to essentially re-write the
thing like an English assignment in creative plagiarism.

If you posted it to some other news server, then I have no advice to offer.

Hi Glen,
Thxs for the link to the Tech Guy-- I read the post you linked me to-- the
poster couldn't stream video at all. I will post in the multimedia forum,
who knows, I surely can't be the only one with this occurence!!

Do you have XP now or just 98-SE, I seem to remember you were running both
OS's?? I'm happy to see your still in this group.

Very strange symptom, the song plays 80% and then just stops and gives the
error I posted. Hopefully I will figure it out, but it seems like WHAT's to
figure--- when the problem for me is only one large website, but I sure did
enjoy going and spending time.

Hi Gary,
Ummm-- you have SP-3 on your XP system and you could play the entire song.
Your a MVP and have more knowledge than me. Thanks for the link to help, I
have had SP-3 for sometime now. My install went very well, and I didn't
notice anything at all, nada. I was so pleased to have NO issues. Do you
know, or have you heard of a similar occurence like mine happening after
SP-3?

Yes, I brought the XP-Gen NG into OE. The NG I picked from the list for my
first post was... *microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player.web*
and I subscribed to it. My post NEVER posted, in fact nothing has posted
since 8/21/08 into that group-- another strange occurence that I've never
encountered. I have 2 accounts for NG's... one for Microsoft & one for my
ISP.

Can't say as I have heard of this, but I've run into my own issues that were
at first unknown and then became common knowledge. Upon reflection, have you
emptied Temporary Internet Files? Reinstalled WMP?

Anyway, take it to tech support.

Despite the differing symptoms, it is still worth trying some of the suggestions
there.

Your error after playing 80% could be as simple as a losing the connection to the
streaming server due to connection problems via your ISP.

Yes, I dual boot 98SE and XP, plus I have other computers with other operating
systems installed, including Windows Home Server (WHS).

Please let us know if you get this resolved, and if you get any info through the

Please note that when I looked through the WMP mini-faq at
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html, there was this info which may relate to your issue:
